My Trip Itinerary

If all goes well, this is my plan...

Saturday- arrive in Mexico City 12:15 p.m. (Illinois time is the same, wow!)
Visit the National Museaum of Anthropology, if my flight is on time! I will be staying at the Galeria Plaza hotel.

Sunday- I will travel by bus to Michoacan (a state in Mexico) and on my trip I will be able to see the Trans Volcanic mountains where the monarchs roost!! :) I will tour an old silver mining town and the mine.

Monday- After breakfast I will be going to the larger of the two butterfly sanctuaries, El Rosario! I will hike (ugh!) through the forest. There is a colony where I will eat lunch, and there will be local crafts.

Tuesday- Another butterfly sanctuary, this one is Sierra Chincua....I can 'rent' a horse for this hike. I love to walk....unless I cannot drag myself up the mountain, that is what I will be doing! After lunch I will leave for the capital of Michoacan, Morelia. It is called "Queen of the Colonial Cities. I will stay at the hotel Patzcuaro.

Wednesday- In the morning I will tour the Place of the Hummingbirds...called Tzintzuntzan where I can explore the history and culture of the native people, the Purhepecha.
I will visit by boat a sacred island called Janitzio. I will experience the 'Days of the Dead' colonial atmosphere.

Thursday- I will visit a school and Morelia, and head back to Mexico City.

Friday- I will tour the Shrine of Guadalupe and visit the ancient city of Teotihuacan. The third largest pyramids, the Sun and Moon are here. We will tour Zocolo, Mexico City's central square, and Templo Mayor, or Aztec ruins. I will also see the National Palace and Diego Rivera murals.

Saturday- At 9:35 a.m. my flight to Chicago leaves Mexico City....and the people, the ruins, the history and the butterflies! :( See you Monday!

Before I go....

I am wondering...what will it be like if I get to see the butterflies hanging on the oyamel trees as they overwinter in the sanctuaries of Mexico?
